Karalyn got her cast last Thursday.  The doctor said that her arm is healing up beautifully.  She chose a pink cast and a purple strip. She gets it off on March 22.

The night before last, Karalyn was going to bed and tripped on one of her toys.  She didn’ hurt her arm, but she landed on the toy and bruised her leg on the doll house she tripped on.  I almost thought we were going to have to take her to the Emergency room again.  I put an icepack on it and gave her some ibuprofen and sent her back to bed…after I picked the toys up of the floor.  I told her that I really should have given her the name “Gracie Mae” which is her nik name, then maybe she would be more graceful.  She just grinned at me.  She is ok though, just has a sore spot on her leg.

A few weeks ago I noticed some spots on my arms and thought they were just light bruises from Andrew grabbing my arms.  Over the past few weeks I have noticed that they are not going away and they are getting a little bit darker.  I thought maybe they were dry spots, but they are not any drier than the rest of my skin is.  I am keeping track of them by taking pictures once a week.  I am going to make an appointment with my doctor and see if he knows what they are.  They don’t itch or hurt, they are just there

This is my right arm

This is my left arm

They have gotten a tiny bit darker since I took these pictures.  I have extremely sensitive skin so it could be just an irritation, but like I said it doesn’t itch or hurt at all.  I have a few other small spots on my arms, I don’t have them anywhere else on me.  I tried to look them up on the internet, but found nothing that looked like them.

A few days after Karalyn broke her arm, I went and applied for Medicaid for my kids.  I didn’t go to the regular medicaid office, I went to a First Choice medical clinic to apply…which I am beginning to think was a big mistake.

I went and applied.  I took everything I had in my possession that I needed except for a check stub that I could not find.  I was supposed to have my boss fax a paper to her with the earnings I had for the check stub I was missing, but found out that the one we needed had not been sent to her yet.  So when I talked to the caseworker last week she was really nice and said
“Don’t worry about it just bring in the check stubs  you get for the next pay period for your husband and yourself and I will change the date on the application.  Then we will turn it in.”  Ok.

So this morning I get a call from her this morning and she said” I am going to turn in your application, I can’t wait anymore.  They will send you a paper stating what they need from you and you will probably get denied!”  Then she  hung up on me….WHAT???!!! She told me last week that she could wait until this Thursday, which is when I would have it all together.  Now, a week later she can’t wait anymore.

So now do I wait and see what happens, or go to the main Medicaid office and apply again?  I don’t get people like this at all.  I understand deadlines, but she was willing to work with me.  Any suggestions at to what I should do?  Should I wait and see if I get the paper in the mail stating what I need or should I just go to the main office and reapply for it?

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day to all my family and friends!  Happy Birthday to my friends Moody Mabel and Marcella.

Also, yesterday was my blogoversary…I’ve been blogging for two years, unfortunately this is not my original blog, but I am happy to still be blogging.

So, what are you doing for Valentines Day?  We celebrated yesterday since David has to work tonight.  Instead of just David and I going out we decided to treat the kids to a nice lunch and a movie.  So we had lunch at Denny’s, because that’s where they like to eat out and then we went to see the movie “Tooth Fairy”, which is a really cute movie that we all enjoyed.

Last night I made some sugar cookies for my mom and her boyfriend George, my brother Karl and his girlfriend Crystal and my Auntie Sharon and Uncle Jimmy. And I made these cards to go with them….

I hope everyone has a nice Valentines Day!

I made these for a friend who has a birthday coming up.

I also made these as another set to give her.

As if we haven’t had enough going on the past couple of weeks….yesterday we got a phone call from Andrew’s friend Ethan.  He told us that they were throwing rocks, they hit a car, and the police were headed over to where they were at.

Great! Just what we needed.

So we got to his friends house and found out what was going on.  There were three boys at his friends house.  They were throwing rocks at trees, got bored of it and decided to chuck rocks across the ditch and into the busy street.  I am told, they hit a car.  The lady came over to the house, yelled at the kids and the boys parents that she was going to go home and call the police.  This is when we got the call to go over to the friends house.

David and I thought the police would already be there and from the way the boys talked on the phone that they had broken a car window, but the police weren’t there and  no windows were broken.  Turns out just two of the boys were throwing rocks and Andrew was fixing a sling shot.

We waited for the police to show up, but they never did.  We went home, to wait for them to show up, they never did.  Andrew spent the day cleaning our back yard as a punishment, even though he didn’t throw the rocks.  We told him he should have said something to the other two boys about it.   The other two boys are grounded for a long time.

I don’t think any of these kids will be throwing rocks anytime soon.

—————————————————————————————-

A few years ago, Karalyn and Matthew were playing in the driveway.  We heard a loud noise and then heard two kids running…one came in the back door and the other the front.  Both were screaming and crying that they didn’t do it.  I looked out the window and the back passenger side window was broken, better yet shattered.

I am not a person who easily gets angry, but I was very angry.  I don’t know how many times I had told my kids not to throw things, especially rocks.   The new window cost us a little over $200.00 , which was cheap because the other places we called wanted over $500.00 for a window like they broke…good thing my dad worked in auto body repair and because of him my mom knew who to call.

Brain Storm…

When I was making the ribbon roses the other day for the thank you note,  I remembered how much fun the kids in my art classes enjoyed making them.  So I have asked Karalyn to talk to her teacher and see if, as a thank you to all the kids in her class for what they did for her, I can come teach the kids how to make ribbon roses.  I am really hoping that the teacher will make some extra time during class one day so that I can do this for them.  Karalyn really liked the idea.

What do you think?  Do you think this would be a good way to thank the kids?

This is a Thank you card I made for one of Karalyn’s classmates.  I was feeling really creative at six O’clock this morning…Looks like a Valentine doesn’t it? It was too bulky to scan so I had to take a picture of it and crop it…It doesn’t really show as much detail as I’d like it to, but I am happy with the card.

Stuff…

I have spent the last two days running around and  stressing out, trying to get my kids and myself signed up for medical insurance.  It’s an exhausting process, especially when your worried about how your going to pay the doctor bills that have suddenly popped into your life.  I had the opportunity to take care of it last year in April when I sprained my ankle, but I am really not sure what happened.  I am grateful that I have been able to get help to pay the bills though.

Karalyn had an appointment this morning with her orthopedic doctor and he said that it looks like her arm was set very well and is healing nicely.  We thought they were going to put a cast on it today, but the doctor decided to wait until next week because it’s only been five or six days since she broke it.  He wants it to be a little stronger before he switches it from the splint to the cast.  So Karalyn was bummed she didn’t get a pink glow in the dark cast today, however they very nicely re-wrapped her splint in a red bandage so it looks much nicer than the other one did…I think she still would have rather had pink though!

David and I have been stressing over money…  Since Wal-mart so kindly gave David a bunch of days off during Christmas, which was nice but really hard on the pockets, we were very short on funds in January.  So when Karalyn broke her arm we both really were worried about how things were going to get paid.  At home we were out of all the basics…milk, eggs, and so on.  I had promised Karalyn I would buy her a bag that she could wear over the shoulder for her school stuff, so she went into hysterics when there was no check when I was supposed to get paid on Monday.  Tuesday, no check…Wednesday…finally it came, turns out it was mailed from Massachusetts and all the weather we have had here in the US held up the mail.  I don’t ever think I have been so thankful to get paid.  We were out of everything and behind on everything.  Now we are caught up and feeling much better.  I think I will sleep well tonight.

I have been busy working on more Iris folding cards.  I made 12 purses, 12 butterflies and 16 vases with flower.  Now I am working on some thank you’s for Karalyn’s classmates. Here are some of the cards:

I will post the Thank you’s later…when I finish them.

My poor little Karalyn…spent Saturday rather groggy.  That medicine they gave her when they put her bones back in place on Friday night made her really loopy.  She was waving at something that David and I couldn’t see and was admiring the red glow that was on her finger from the moniter she was attached to.  She also looked over her splint and gave us a funny grin.  The whole broken arm thing was horrible, but watching Karalyn come out of her brief sleep was amusing for David and I…I hope that doesn’t sound mean.

Saturday, Sierra,  a friend of Karalyn’s brought her a gift to make her feel better.  It was a little white Poodle stuffed toy in a little pink carrier.  She also brought a card that was signed by the youth group, the leaders and Sierra.  This made Karalyn grin from ear to ear.

Saturday afternoon, she was so determined to hang out with her brothers and their friends that she took a blanket with her out to the garage and sat in a recliner while she watched them play video games.

Soon she got tired and went and laid down in her room.  Harry, my cat decided to keep her company.

Saturday evening, my mom called and told Karalyn that George, mom’s man friend (Because she says he is not a boy), had something for her.  So we went over and visited with my mom and George for a little bit.  He gave Karalyn and get well card and a box of chocolates…which Karalyn shared with me when we got home.

When we left mom’s, Karalyn asked if we could go talk to the little girl who’s Heely’s she had borrowed the night before, to tell her that she was ok.  The little girl was so upset that Karalyn got hurt that she made herself sick worrying about her…on the way we saw the most beautiful sunset I have seen in a long time. Isn’t it beautiful!

Then Princess decided Karalyn’s arm needed her attention, Karalyn disagreed! Can’t say I blame  her either.

Karalyn went to bed at eight and snored most of the night…poor girl was so exhausted.

Karalyn

Karalyn has really fine hair and it gets messed up just turning her head, I’ve tried putting her hair up, but it always ends up messy for one reason or another.  She dresses the way she wants and has a style of her own, kinda like Pippi Longstocking sometimes.  She likes to wear a shirt, a skirt, and a pair of jeans under the skirt.  It’s just her style.

On Wednesday, I was at her parent teacher conference and her teacher was talking about how much she, Kara, is loved by her fellow classmates.  The teacher told me that they loved her so much that one of the girls decided that the whole class should gather things for Karalyn…she said she nearly cried when three of Kara’s classmates came to her with the idea.     The teacher said that the students got tired of seeing Karalyn’s hair messy. She said one girl told her that Karalyn is so pretty, she just wanted her to take a little pride in her looks.

So on Thursday, the class presented her with a new backpack, several articles of clothing (both brand new and slightly used), barrettes, brushes, make up, perfume, new shoes, a purse.   Karalyn was in heaven with receiving the gifts.  After she received all the gifts, all she could think about was how she could thank the kids for all of their kindness…we are still trying to think of something.

I am amazed at the kindness and thoughtfulness of her fellow classmates, especially since we live in a world where everyone seems to be so wrapped up in themselves.  I got tears in my eyes  looking through all of the stuff that the kids gave her.

She had a blast getting all dressed up for school on Friday morning.  She put a shirt on that one of the kids gave her and did her hair up really cute.  Put perfume on that smelled just as sweet as she is.  She went to school and had a fabulous day.

Well, last night…Karalyn was with the youth group that meets every Friday night and they stopped at a park for a minute the kids all got out of the van and went and played.  A girl her age was wearing Heely’s…tennis shoes with wheels, a big NO, NO in our house.  So Karalyn asked to wear the shoes and she fell.  When she fell she went backwards, twisted around and broke her fall with her right hand…and broke her arm.

These shoes are dangerous…  Matthew and Karalyn have wanted a pair of these since they came out a few years ago.  I did get them each a pair, but they had two wheel on them and they were only allowed to wear them at home.  Eventually, the wheels got taken off of them and thrown away because the kids kept falling.

Anyway, The youth leader immediately brought Karalyn back home and we took her to the ER, hoping that she didn’t break it.   She broke both of the bones in her arm just a few inches below her wrist.

The doctors reset her arm and put a splint on it.  She has an appointment later this week with the orthapedic clinic to see how it is healing.
